The Grand Tour: Richard Hammond says he’s ‘spending longer apart’ from Clarkson and May

The Grand Tour hosts Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May have been hosting the Amazon Prime series, and formerly Top Gear for what adds up to decades now. However, Richard Hammond has recently opened up about his own series, which means he will be “spending longer apart” from Clarkson and May.

After working alongside Co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and James May for a number of years now, Richard Hammond announced he will be taking a step away from the car-mad trio.

Recently, news dropped that Hammond is branching out with a new Amazon series of his own.

The new series will see him shipwrecked on a deserted island with Tory Belleci, the US presenter of MythBusters.

The pair have to use their engineering and science skills to construct objects to survive on the island, from vehicles to waterwheels.

When asked by inews.co.uk if it feels like he is “cheating” on Clarkson and May, after 17 years together, the host said: “No, we’re spending longer apart but when we do get together, it’s like there’s a version of myself that only lives in that world with Jeremy and James.

“We get straight back into that mode.”

However, the presenter revealed that despite the time apart, he remains the butt of Clarkson’s tired jokes.

He added: “I should discover a new maturity at 50 but the other two haven’t so why should I?

He said: “We’re not millennials, only millennials are ill, ‘oh I don’t know what it is I think I’ll just go to bed for a year’, we’re elders so you just get up and get on with it.”

However, the host’s “get on with it” attitude soon ran out while filming the first special, as he revealed he wanted it all to be over, as the weather conditions became too much.

As the trio neared the end of their voyage across the Mekong river, the waters became incredibly choppy.

The trio faced waterlogged boats, blockages and exhaustion.

Despite being the first to completed the journey, Jeremy Clarkson revealed he wanted it all to be over.

He went on to say: “I didn’t care about James and Richard, but the camera guys and the production team, they were really quite scared.”

Clarkson said: “I sort of plodded on and then just went really fast because I wanted it to be over which actually seemed to make it better.”
