Riverdale has been gripping viewers since its first season and continue to do so with series four. But the Netflix and The CW show could have been completely different if some of these actors switched roles. Here are three Riverdale actors who auditioned for other parts in the teen drama.

Cole Sprouse
Sprouse plays Riverdale’s resident writer Jughead Jones but he originally auditioned for the part of Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa).
When his agent sent him the script for Riverdale, he was asked to read for the part of Archie but after learning more about Jughead, he asked if he could read his part instead.
Speaking to WWD, the actor said: “He’s very much an outsider. He has a pretty unique perspective because he’s seeing the town and the friendship and the friendships that are forming from a more objective point of view.
“He eavesdrops, he listens, he’s the guy with the camera, snooping, sleuthing, and in that way, he’s distanced himself from a lot of the people in the town, through his own fear of being vulnerable and his inability to cope with people.”
Talking more about his interest in the role to Collider.com, Spouse said: ”Jughead is so different from Cody [his role in Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody] , who I played just before, and so different from most of the other roles I played, as a child star.
“I really wanted to see if I could do that, as a challenge to myself.”

Madelaine Petsch
Could you imagine anyone else taking on the role of Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart)?
The makers of the show certainly did as Madelaine Petsch who plays sassy redhead Cheryl Blossom, was considered for the role.
Talking in a Q&A on her Youtube channel, Petsch revealed: “I initially auditioned for Legends of Tomorrow, and I then got called in the same day for a producer session for that guest [role].
“From there, I came in three days later, for producers for Betty.”
“I’m pretty sure they always knew they wanted me for Cheryl.
“Then, four months later, I came in for Cheryl!”
There are more than a few mysteries to solve in Riverdale’s season four.
From the videotapes appearing on residents’ doorsteps to the ever evolving storyline of Jughead’s apparent death.
Fans are continually intrigued by what’s going to happen next so whether a change in casting would have made a different to the show’s popularity will never be known.
But it seems the characters are headed for even more drama in the midseason finale.
