Orphan Black Echoes – Keeley Hawes enters the weird world of 'crazy science'

TV star Keeley Hawes appears to be in danger of cloning herself in pictures released for her new sci-fi outing, Orphan Black: Echoes.

The Durrells, Line of Duty and Bodyguard actress has top billing in the new, mind-bending 10-parter, due to go out later this month on ITVX.

The show is a spin-off of Canadian hit Orphan Black, which fans dubbed the “Clone Club” and again promises more so-called “crazy science”.

In the spin-off, Hawes plays Dr Kira Manning, the daughter of Sarah Manning, who was the lead character in the original Orphan Black series.

Co-star Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones, Breaking Bad, Love & Death) plays Lucy, a woman who has undergone a procedure and has no memory of who she is.

An ITV spokesman said: “Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence.”

The role may seem a departure for Keeley Hawes, but one of her last projects was The Midwich Cuckoos, a John Wyndham sci-fi classic, which was adapted for Sky.

Orphan Black: Echoes showrunner John Fawcett said of the new series: “For all our dedicated OB fans out there, I am thrilled that we can bring this new chapter to them.

“Without our fans, this new show certainly wouldn’t exist and for that I’m deeply grateful. I can’t wait to ‘follow the crazy science’ for them.”
