Most people take bags of nuts or cookies to nibble on during – or after – a long flight.

Not Kevin Bacon.

The actor was recently pulled over by the TSA on his way Los Angeles for having a sweet potato in his luggage.

The 61-year-old recalled the curious case of the vegetable on late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday.

‘I was on my way to LA, and I knew I was going to be arriving in five hours, and I knew that in about seven-and-a-half hours I was going to be hungry,’ Kevin recalled.

‘So I saw a nice sweet potato sitting there ready to go, and I just threw it in my suitcase. And, of course, TSA flagged it.’

After sharing an Instagram photo of the food in question, he and Jimmy took a while debating if it was, in fact, a sweet potato or a yam.

They ultimately landed on the former after the audience weighed in volubly with suggestions.

Kevin didn’t have a grudge against the security officers for holding him up.

He posted an image of his innocent sweet potato captioned: ‘Thanks to the hard working folks at #TSA for keeping us safe.

‘If I saw this on the X-ray I would have searched my bag as well.’

Kevin, who has been married to actress Kyra Sedgwick since 1988, was on the late night show to talk up his new Showtime crime drama City On A Hill.

Set in corrupt 1990s Boston, an assistant district attorney, played by Aldis Hodge, forms an unlikely alliance with Kevin’s corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr.
