I was so desperate for a baby I spent £4k and went to another country for IVF, then my husband made me get an abortion

A WOMAN has bravely opened up about her heart-breaking struggle with becoming a mum and how her partner ultimately destroyed the dream.

The woman, 47, reportedly met her husband as a student at a university, and the duo decided to try for a baby a little over a decade ago.

The couple had allegedly tried for a baby for years, with the woman ultimately deciding to jet off to Ukraine to use an egg donor

Although there were risks, as women over the age of 35 are more likely to experience complications such as high blood pressure, miscarriage and stillbirth, the couple were doing everything they could to become parents.

As reported by MailOnline, they’d allegedly spent three years planning around their social and professional lives around the wife’s ”’fertile window” every month.

However, despite their best efforts, the couple couldn’t get pregnant, and to make matters more frustrating, doctors were believed to have informed the couple that the chances of them falling pregnant were less than five per cent.

Even if they were to try IVF using the woman’s eggs, that number wasn’t much higher, reaching just nine per cent, she added in the heart-breaking post.

After being unable to access IVF on the NHS and finding out that using an egg donor would increase their chances of having a baby, the woman claimed that she’d found a clinic abroad, in Ukraine.

The clinic, she alleged, had ”no waiting lists for eggs” and could ensure the donor remained anonymous.

In total, with flights and accommodation include, the costs came to £4,000.

“Two weeks later I took a test and, marvellously, it was positive. I was over the moon,” the woman said.

“But when I told [my husband] he seemed oddly withdrawn. I put it down to him working long hours and carried on getting excited, planning who to tell first.”

However, just eight weeks later the partner allegedly dropped a a huge bombshell, saying he was unsure if he’d could ”bond” with a baby that isn’t biologically both of them.

I was in £50,000 debt after my wife had nine rounds of IVF… so I did something drastic

Then, another bombshell – keep the baby and he’d break up with her.

Although the decision was by no means easy and she’d wanted to become a mum for a long time, she also knew she ”didn’t want to live” the rest of the life ”without him”.

“I knew perfectly well we’d be over if I carried on. The prospect of bringing up a child on my own seemed bleak.”

There was also another dreaded thought – what if he left her for someone else and had children with another woman?

This, she bravely opened up, felt as if a gun was being held right next to her head.

It was a week later when she terminated the pregnancy without her partner by her side, before taking a week off to see her mum in Spain.

After returning, the duo, who are still together, requested the remaining embryos in storage to be destroyed.

He is one of life’s good guys

Although the post may have painted the husband ”out to be a demon”, the woman explained how it couldn’t be any further from the truth, describing him as ”a kind and generous husband in many ways”.

”He is one of life’s good guys; he makes me laugh, whatever the weather he does the last dog walk, he gets along better with my father than I do.”

The woman, who added that he simply ”could not reconcile himself to becoming a father this way”, has not yet fallen pregnant naturally and said the ”grief and regret” still comes flooding back every now and then.
