Dan Walker’s best bits as presenter leaves BBC Breakfast

Dan Walker is so thrilled with one of his colleagues’ farewell gifts of an inflatable lobster he left the BBC Breakfast studio carrying it.

The presenter filmed his final show after six years on the sofa with current co-host Sally Nugent, and a surprise visit from his former sidekick Louise Minchin.

The production team’s send-off – included the nod to his time on Strictly Come Dancing when he dressed as a lobster with Nadiya Bychkova, who video-called him to join the chorus of best wishes.

Dan, 45, presented yesterday’s slot after being stuck on the M4 and then having to sit for hours waiting for his electric car to charge on Monday night at a service station.

Touched, if a little blurry-eyed, he said: “It’s always been my dream to do a job like this and work with people like you guys, so thank you.”

“It’s come around a lot more quickly than I thought. It does feel a bit surreal, the fact that I won’t be sitting on the sofa anymore, that I won’t be sitting next to you after today, that this is my last day.”

Some of his top moments were shown including his interview with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and members of the public describing him as a “6ft 7in ray of sunshine”.

But his fans have no claws for concern, he will be returning to screens as lead anchor on 5 News.
