Coronation Street's Alison King announces engagement as she breaks silence on romance

Coronation Street star Alison King has confirmed she’s engaged.

After rumours began swirling that she’d said yes to her mystery man, she’s introduced him to the world.

The 46-year-old, who plays Carla Connor in the ITV soap, is set to marry IT salesman David Stuckley after he popped the question on a romantic boat trip they almost had to cancel.

Alison showed off her stunning diamond and platinum ring as she talked about her romance with David for the first time ever.

And she admits that she’d had such an inkling he was about to propose that she bought him a Rolex as an engagement gift and took it along on their Mediterranean cruise just in case.

She told OK! magazine: “It was just a few days after our one-year anniversary. I had an inkling he was going to pop the question because he kept putting something on my finger and going, ‘Right, close your eyes and forget this ever happened!’

“We’d also discussed marriage, too. I think we both went from ‘No, we don’t ever need to get married’, to ‘Oh, we really want to get married!'”

Alison and David were on holiday with some friends in Portugal when he plucked up the courage to ask and booked them a sunset cruise on their own.

She said: “I’d bought him a Rolex as an engagement present too, and I took it along just in case he asked as I had an inkling he would! But as we drove towards the port at Albufeira, there were black clouds over the sea. The taxi driver was like, ‘You’re going on a boat? You’re kidding, right?’.”

David admitted the boat’s crew were all in on the surprised and that they’d reassured them they wouldn’t cancel the trip, but that as they got out of the marina the waves were huge.

He says he was so scared to pull the ring out in case it flew out of his hands, so he got the crew to take them back to the marina, where there were no people around.

He said: “Once the crew had turned off the engine and gone downstairs, I got really nervous and started stumbling over my words. I thought, I’ve got to ask her now, so it was then that I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I got emotional! I didn’t know what she was going to say.”

Alison added: “I said ‘Yes please’, and then I gave him the watch! It was perfect, even though it didn’t go to plan!”

Alison and David have already chosen a wedding venue, but say they’re “quite relaxed” and just want a “nice party”.

The couple were first spotted together in 2018, but this is the first time Alison has gone public with her relationship.

They met in March that year when the personal trainer they shared set them up.
