Videos and Twitter reactions: Wales celebrate Euro 2020 qualification

Wales 2 Hungary 0

Wales head coach Ryan Giggs has described the 2-0 victory over Hungary as one of the “greatest nights” of his life.

Giggs’s side secured their place at next summer’s European Championships after two goals from Aaron Ramsey at the Cardiff City Stadium.

As a player Giggs won 13 Premier League titles and two Champions League winner’s medals at Manchester United, but he ranks Euro 2020 qualification right up there with his past achievements.

After steering his squad to second place in group E, Giggs said: “It is a special, special night. The lads have showed great determination and quality and a never-give-up attitude. They deserve all the plaudits.

“There was no room for error, and the quality and concentration they have shown, they deserve it. It is one of the greatest nights of my life. Simple as that.

“I achieved a lot as a player, but it’s different as a manager, the pressure you are under and you are helpless as a manager. I was never nervous as a player, but as a manager you are. Come game day, it is out of your hands.”

Ramsey: we want to inspire again

Juventus midfielder Ramsey was part of the Welsh team that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016 in France. He is now eager to repeat those exploits next summer.

“I am very proud and excited to go back to the Euros,” he said. “We had the best time of our lives in France so we wanted to make sure we got there again.

“We inspired a nation last time out and we want to do that again. There are some players who have not experienced this and we wanted to give them a taste of it again.

“It has been a bit of a long time but I think I made up for the wait. It means a lot after failing to qualify for the World Cup so we really wanted to make sure we gave it everything to qualify for this so full credit to the lads, we have done it.

“It’s amazing. We knew it was going to be a tight group before it started so we thought it might come down to the last couple of games and it did.

“We have been in this position before and just came up a bit short. With the experience of the boys and some great young talent we are proud we are going back to the Euros.”
