Meghan and Harry have led celebrity Mother’s Day tributes on social media as the pair shared a poignant Instagram post.
The couple issued a heartwarming message for fans amid the global coronavirus crisis which has left millions across the globe separated from their loved ones.
Other gushing declarations of gratitude came from stars including Dan Osborne, who paid tribute to his I’m a Celeb champion wife Jacqueline Jossa, Abby Clancy and Amanda Holden.
Harry and Meghan spoke as they prepare to leave the royal family at the end of the month.
The post, shared on the Sussex Royal Instagram account, said: “Mummy. Mum. Mom. Mama. Granny. Nan. Thank you.”
The caption read: “No matter what you call your mum, this Mother’s Day in the UK, we honour the mums all over the world who do so much every single day, and now more than ever.”
As people up and down the country spend the day apart from loved ones amid the coronavirus pandemic, many are experiencing a more surreal Mothering Sunday than they’re used to. As the government has ordered people to heed their advice and keep away from their mums, those in the public eye have joined the rest of the population in showing their respects to the women in their life on social media.
Former Towie star Dan Osborne praised his wife, I’m a Celeb champ Jacqueline Jossa, hailing her “an amazing mummy” in a post which also featured pictures of their daughters Ella and Mia.
Dan, 29, wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day. You’re an amazing mummy & these babies absolutely adore you. Thank you for everything you do for all of the kids, you’re appreciated and loved more than you could imagine. [sic]”
Victoria Beckham also showed her appreciation for her mum, alongside a snap of the pair of them with her children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
The fashion designer said: “Today we celebrate a Mother’s Day like no other in the experience of our generation.
“So many of us won’t be able to see our mums today. Most of us will be sending them virtual love and gratitude, while thinking especially of the families with those on the frontlines taking care of others.
“We will all continue to be kind and resilient. Sending love to everyone today from us all.”
Posh’s fellow Spice Girl Emma Bunton also thanked her ‘mama’, sharing a series of pictures and telling fans she couldn’t wait to hug her.
Susanna Reid took a moment during self-isolation after a family member experienced symptoms of the virus to say Happy Mother’s Day to her mum.
The Good Morning Britain presenter said: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the special, wonderful, amazing mums out there and a virtual hug and kiss to my mum. I love you. To all of you, have a happy day.”
Model Abbey Clancy also shared details of her morning in bed surrounded by kids Sophia, Johnny, Liberty and Jack.
She wrote alongside a snap of them, with husband Peter Crouch perhaps behind the camera, surrounded by homemade cards: “Happy Mothers Day to all the wonderful mothers out there stay safe everyone x.”
Dancing On Ice winner Joe Swash also got in on the action, saying he and kids Rex, Leighton and Zach re the “luckiest boys in the world.”
He also echoed the confusion felt in most households today, adding in a wee joke: “With everything going on at the minute I’m so glad we have you. I don’t know how it’s going to be a few weeks in but for now, I love you.”
Amanda Holden shared a throwback snap of her and her mum, and her two daughters Alexa and Holly, saying: ”Flashback to a day we were all together.. #happymothersday… stay safe, stay strong #wecandoit.”
Laura Whitmore praised her mum Carmel and posted an old picture of them when the Love Island host was a wee girl. She said: “Happy Mother’s Day Carmel and to all the mother figures in all their forms.” She also revealed she’d bought her mum a present “with a difference” from Help Refugees.
