THE Hills star Whitney Port has slammed trolls for their “blatant bigotry” when making “homophobic” comments about her two-year-old son’s hair.
The reality star took to her YouTube channel to open up about her decision to let Sonny grow long, curly locks and gave an insight into the comments she receives about it.

Whitney, 34, and her husband Tim Rosenman both spoke in the clip which explained their approach to gender expression.
The Hills star said: “How you dress is an expression of you and your personality and no one should tell you there is one way to do it.”
Tim added: “[Sonny] will just be whoever he is born to be and we’re here to support that… not push him in one direction or another.”
Whitney gave an example of the “homophobic” comments she had seen in response to pictures on her son.

She read: “He looks like a she, Whitney. I get not wanted to depict their gender but Jesus this is the third pic I’ve seen of him today where, if I didn’t know he was a son, I’d most definitely think he was girl.
“To be honest, in a few years when he sees these pics you are sending out into the world it just might upset him. It’s a thought to acknowledge. “

Whitney responded: “First of all what is a ‘he’ supposed to look like and what is a ‘she’ supposed to look like?
“There isn’t any ‘supposed to look like’ anything. Who ever said that because boys have long hair that makes them less of a boy? I just don’t understand.”
She continued: “He doesn’t have the tools to change [his hair] himself, so as his parents we have to make those decisions for him. Once Sonny is able to make decisions himself then he can present himself in a way that makes him feel the most comfortable.”

Whitney then added: “And it’s important to have [conversations about gender expression] to support your children when you see maybe the tiniest ounce of what would be called ‘different’ and to support that difference and make them feel like it’s okay.”
The reality star explained why she felt the need to speak out in a short message alongside her video.
Whitney wrote: “I know ignoring the trolls is usually the best policy, but sometimes it can spark an important conversation.
“It’s easy to recognize blatant bigotry, but sometimes the same, excuse my language, bullsh*t is hidden behind a thin veil of ‘advice’ or ‘just my opinion’.”
She continued: “Someone thought warning me that Sonny ‘looked too much like a girl’ was something I should be concerned about.
“She probably thought she was trying to help. In the same way it is our responsibility to do our best to feed, clothe, educate, etc… we should also be raising good people, so the world doesn’t become completely populated by jerks.”
Whitney then added: “Sonny, if you ever read this one day, please remember to always be yourself no matter what anyone says. I love you, and I love your hair. Oh yeah, did you hide my keys somewhere?”
