The results were revealed by Post Office Travel in its annual Holiday Costs Barometer.

It looked at items (a basket of goods) that Brits would typically buy while on holiday for 20 beach resorts around Europe.

Included in the basket of goods are a cup of coffee, a bottle of local beer or lager, a bottle or can of Coca Cola, a glass of wine, a 1.5l bottle of still mineral water, sunscreen, insect repellent, a three course dinner for two with wine and two course lunch for two.

Based on the prices for these items, the Post Office found that Limassol in Cyprus saw the biggest fall in prices – the cost of these items are 20.2 per cent less this year compared to last year.

The Algarve in Portugal is another destination where prices have fallen significantly this year, with savings of up to 16.2 per cent.

In fact, most of the resorts included in their study have seen a fall in prices, with Majorca dropping by 11 per cent, Sunny Beach in Bulgaria dropping by 10.7 per cent and Sliema in Malta dropping by 9.5 per cent.

In contrast, Alicante was one of the few destinations that’s actually more expensive this year than last year, with prices rising by 12.3 per cent.

Zadar in Croatia, Nice in France and the Lisbon coast in Portugal also saw increases of 0.7 per cent, 1.4 percent and 0.1 per cent respectively.

The Post Office also worked out how much the basket of goods would cost in total and Sunny Beach was the cheapest, with everything coming in at £38.86.

The next cheapest is the Algarve, where the basket cost £57.45, followed by Marmaris in Turkey, which comes in at £59.13.

Nick Boden, Head of Post Office Travel Money, said: “The extent to which prices have fallen gives us confidence that if they choose wisely, holidaymakers will still find great value and their holiday budget will go a long way in most resorts.

“The price falls could be an indication that tourist businesses in European resorts are keen to attract UK visitors and will keep costs low to do so.”

He added: “There are significant variations between the prices we found in resorts this year so it will really pay dividends to do some holiday homework before booking to avoid busting the budget. “

This week, EU parliament confirmed that Brits will be able to holiday in Europe without a visa even in the event of a No Deal Brexit.
