One of the UK's 'best hidden beaches' has incredible views and features in multiple films

Tucked away in is a quiet pebble which has been described as one of the “best hidden beaches” in the UK despite having starred in multiple films due to its incredible views. The beach was included in the top 10 best hidden beaches in the UK compiled by Sykes Holiday Cottages, who describe it as “one of those secret beaches where you can simply immerse yourself in the area’s rich history”.

The beach is dominated by the white chalk cliffs of Seven Sisters which loom overhead to the east and sits at the mouth of the Cuckmere river. One of the most iconic spots for views is looking out over the coastguard cottages towards the cliffs.

Thanks to this backdrop, the beach has been used as a location in numerous films including and the Goblet of Fire and Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

The beach offers a fantastic place for walkers, dog walkers and simply those who want to sit down beneath the sun and soak up the views. Cuckmere Haven is also a popular spot for anglers.

Cuckmere Haven Beach is also steeped in history, having once been the stomping ground of smugglers in the 17th and 18th centuries.

In the 19th century, it played a pivotal role in the battle against the smuggling trade and it also served as a great base to protect Britain during the World Wars.

Though the beach made it onto the “best hidden beaches” list, it still attracts a decent swathe of tourists yearly. On average, it is estimated that 350,000 people pay a visit to Cuckmere Haven Beach per year.

Cuckmere Haven Beach can be found just a short drive away from the town of Seaford with the closest car park being located at South Hill Barn. At the time of writing, you can park there for free for up to two hours.

Previous visitors to the beach have awarded it a 4.5 out of a possible five stars on Tripadvisor and the beach also received a Travellers’ Choice award in 2023.

A visitor who left a review in December 2023 said: “The place is gorgeous!! You can walk to the beach and then climb towards the cliff and walk on the cliff side as well. Loved the view!!” [SIC]
