The Biggest Loser contestant Daniel Wright passes away from leukemia at age 30


Daniel Wright, a former contestant on the hit NBC reality series The Biggest Loser, has passed away from leukemia at the age of 30.

Wright, who was a contestant on Season 7 of The Biggest Loser in 2009, passed away on Sunday morning, according to several of Wright’s friends on social media.

Friends Courtney Crozier Repsess, who appeared on Season 11 of The Biggest Loser, was one of the people who confirmed his passing by leaving a touching tribute on Facebook.

‘I am so so heartbroken to hear about Daniel Wright this morning. He has fought SO HARD during his battle with cancer & more,’ she began.

‘This man is one of the kindest people I have ever met & is a true difference maker in this world! His faith has never faded, even in the darkest of times. I am honored to have known him!!!’ she continued. 

‘Please keep him & his beautiful, amazing, and beyond strong wife Rebecca Wright in your prayers today as he is being called to heaven,’ Crozier Repsess said.

The reality contestant was eliminated in the fourth week of the competition, having shed 60 pounds, dropping to 394 pounds in his four weeks on the show.

He returned for the season’s live finale, weighing in at 312 pounds, dropping a total of 142 pounds during the entire season.

Wright returned in Season 8, where he met his future wife, Rebecca Meyer, who was eliminated in week 10, a week ahead of Wright.

He dropped another 111 pounds to weigh in at the live finale at 201 pounds, while Meyer went from 279 pounds to 140 pounds on the show.

Wright was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 28 in October 2017, and while he seemed to have it beaten, he relapsed and was diagnosed with a more severe form of leukemia in December 2018.

A GoFundMe page was set up shortly after Wright was diagnosed, with Crozier and others sharing the page to encourage fans to help Rebecca and their family with support for their medical bills.

Rebecca’s last Facebook post on May 24 revealed her husband’s struggles with his condition.

‘Yesterday, the Lord broke me down & today because of your prayers & my pleading our Lord has made me warrior strong!! I will let you know when they will be doing the procedure as soon as I know,’ she said.

The Biggest Loser Season 12 contestant Joe Mitchell asked everyone to, ‘Please keep Rebecca Wright and her family in your thoughts and prayers’ in a Facebook post. 

Season 8 winner Danny Cahill also shared a touching Facebook tribute of his own upon hearing about Wright’s passing. 

‘Yesterday the world lost a bit of its light. Daniel Wright and I met for the first time in May of 2009 on the beach in Malibu,” he began. “15 of us went to the beach that morning to begin our journey on season 8 of The Biggest Loser.
