The beautiful UK beach less than two hours from Liverpool – with a stunning secluded spot

Porth Iago, a picturesque beach cove in Wales, is just over a two-hour drive from Liverpool. Known as one of Wales’ hidden treasures, Porth Iago features beautiful sunsets and shimmering waters – a perfect spot for those seeking a local getaway.

Sitting between two headlands on the western side of the Llyn Peninsula, it offers more privacy than Liverpool and Wirral’s more familiar seashores.

The travel guide, Lonely Planet, named it the best wild camping beach in Wales, and the Sunday Times lauded it as the “prettiest beach” on the peninsula. Additionally, a nearby campsite scooped up the North Wales award on Channel 4’s The Perfect Pitch series.

The beach’s visitors can sometimes catch sight of seals and dolphins dancing in the waves. While the spot is famous among swimmers, it is also well-known among fishing enthusiasts who have been known to catch bass, pollack and whiting off its northern rocks.

Access to this delightful corner of coastline is through a small farm, which charges for parking. No amenities are available at the beach, so visitors are advised to bring every necessary comfort with them, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Dogs are allowed on the beach but must remain in the car when passing through the farm.

You can get to the beach by walking on the Wales Coast Path, which is perfect if you’re out and about seeing the sights of North Wales. A happy visitor said in a Google review: “If Carlsberg made campsites this is it. Just the best landscape ever. Pay to enter via a modern digital unit, in you go through a working farmyard CAREFULLY, head down to the headland SLOWLY and pick your spot. All new facilities. Spotless. Breathtaking.”

Another person shared: “One of our must-visit beaches whenever we come to Wales. The shape of the cove means that the warmth of the sun is felt, even if it is a blowy day. Be mindful of the descent to the beach. No steps so it can be awkward. Think about packing lightly or making several trips.”
