Sugababes stars have said they wouldn’t have been able to be as open about their mental health struggles back in the day.

The trio – made up of Mutya Buena, Siobhán Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan – are celebrating their 20-year anniversary of their debut album, One Touch, while also preparing to drop new music.

Speaking about the changes that have been made since they first stepped into the spotlight, Keisha and Siobhán revealed how ‘happy’ they are that the mental health of pop stars is discussed so widely now.

And they opened up about how ‘grateful’ they feel that those are now making their way into the mainstream – something that would have been impossible when they first started out.

Discussing Jesy Nelson’s exit from Little Mix due to her mental health, Siobhán told NME: ‘It wouldn’t have been an option back then to say that, and I’m just so happy that mental health is so widely discussed now.

‘I don’t know anybody who hasn’t suffered from some kind of mental health issue once in their lifetime and everyone needs support in the workplace.

‘There’s this idea you’re living a hugely glamorous life the minute you have one song out, and you must be rolling in it, so you should suck up any nasty comments because you chose that life. That attitude is changing – and is seriously long overdue.’

Jesy fronted an award-winning documentary on mental health, where she discussed her struggles in the spotlight, as part of one of the biggest bands around, as well as her suicide attempt.

The X Factor star confirmed her decision to leave Little Mix last December, announcing that she was putting herself first.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK in a new interview following her exit, Jesy added: ‘For so long I worried about other people and letting people down.

‘The only person I should have been trying to make happy was myself and I wasn’t doing that.

‘I needed to do it for my mental health because I know I would have ended up back where I was five years ago, and that’s scary…’
