Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Jamie Laing hints he won't join Strictly 2020 show

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 viewers were shocked last week when it was announced Jamie Laing would be stepping down from his role on the show.

This news followed one of Jamie’s first rehearsals, which saw him jumping up and tearing a ligament in his leg.

Unfortunately for Jamie, this means curtains for his time on Strictly this year.

But fans of the show have already begun asking whether he’ll be able to step in during next year’s edition of the show.

Today Jamie appeared on ITV show This Morning where he spoke to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about his time on the show.

After discussing how he suffered the injury, and indeed the treatment he is now receiving, Jamie was quizzed by Phillip over whether he would return next year.

Smiling bashfully, Jamie simply replied: “I don’t know.”

Gesturing towards his injury, he went on: “It’s not a long standing thing, this.

“You know, it’s one of those shows that everyone wants to do, and everyone wants be a part of it.

“But at the same time you’ve gotta look at things with positivity”.

Discussing when he realised he couldn’t dance anymore, he said: “It’s quite upsetting.”

Speaking about his chat with producers about whether he should go on with the show, he explained they were reluctant to keep him on injured.

He explained: “They said, you know, we could give it a go – but they came to the conclusion it just wasn’t right.”

When he heard the news he wouldn’t be returning he confessed: “I cried.

“I said to everyone: It’s a dancing show, why am I getting so upset about it? I just want to be Madonna!”

Jamie’s replacement on the show was announced this weekend to be former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher.

On arriving on the show he told the BBC: “Is this really happening?! It’s been the most surreal week of my life! I’m a massive fan of Strictly so it’s incredible.

“I’m so happy that I can be a part of it, but at the same time it’s quite bittersweet! “I’m coming in on the back of Jamie’s injury – I keep thinking about him!

“I can’t imagine going through all this excitement and then having to pull out. My thoughts are with him – he seems like a fantastic guy and I hope he’s doing OK.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 continues on September 21 on BBC One, while This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
