Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli revealed he ended up performing at the Lisbon Lions show after Kevin Bridges dropped out to perform for Barack Obama.

Celtic fan Sanjeev shot to fame playing shop owner Navid in the BBC smash hit comedy Still Game and has revealed how he jumped at the chance to meet his football heroes.

He told the Life with Brian podcast: “It was the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions in 2017, I got a late call from the PR guys at Celtic.

“They were honest about it and said, ‘cards on the table, there’s going to be a big do at the Hydro celebrating 67 but Kevin Bridges has had to pull out to do an event with Barack Obama who is in Scotland’.”

He added: “I said I’d be happy to do it. They said I would be introducing Rod Stewart and would only be doing a few minutes.

“It was one of the best nights of my life.”

Kohli also told how he entertained the audience but was left flummoxed after meeting former manager Brendan Rogers backstage after joking about him.

He added: “I said Brendan Rogers, who I didn’t realise was next on after me, he’s a superhero and he’s the only man to kiss Leigh Griffiths and not get pregnant.

“But when I walked off stage he was standing there.

“I said ‘no offence mate’ and he said don’t worry and gave me one of his 100watt smiles.”

The Celebrate 67 event saw 13,000 Hoops fans pack into the Hydro as a celebration to mark the 50th anniversary of the club’s historic 2-1 victory against Inter Milan to lift the European Cup.

Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle and Michelle McManus sang to the crowd which included Brendan Rodgers, Sir Alex Ferguson, Martin Compston, Roy Aitken, Murdo MacLeod and Frank McAvennie.
