Sophie Monk on rumours she will replace Sonia Kruger as host of The Voice

Sophie Monk addresses rumours she will replace Sonia Kruger as host of The Voice next season – amid reports Love Island Australia may be cancelled

Sonia Kruger’s departure from Channel Nine has opened up two vacancies on Today Extra and The Voice Australia.

And Sophie Monk has been tipped to take over the prime time hosting role, amid rumours her current show, Love Island, may be cancelled due to low ratings.

On Tuesday, the 39-year-old was asked about the rumours on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, but downplayed any suggestion she was about to switch jobs.

Sophie said she was aware of the rumours, but refused to confirm or deny whether she had been approached about hosting The Voice.

‘Would you do it, if it was offered?’ radio host Kyle Sandilands asked, to which she replied: ‘I don’t know, I haven’t really thought about it.’

Kyle’s co-host, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, then said The Voice was an entertaining show, prompting Sophie to play coy by asking: ‘Is it?’

‘No one has even discussed it with me so I’m not sure I’m even up for it,’ she added.  ‘It will probably be someone better that can actually host.’

Jackie jumped to her friend’s defence by saying: ‘You can host!’

Sophie is understating her abilities somewhat, as she had previously served as a judge (but not a host) on Nine’s Australia’s Got Talent in 2016.

Meanwhile, Love Island Australia is said to be ‘up in the air’ after the raunchy dating show delivered low ratings for Nine this year.

A network spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia last week a ‘final decision’ on season three had yet to be made.

Despite this, The Daily Telegraph has reported that a question mark hovers over the show’s future going into 2020.
