Sophie Gradon's parents refuse to attend her inquest as shock new details emerge

Sophie Gradon ‘s parents are refusing to attend her inquest, Mirror Online has learned.

Earlier this month, the hearing into the Love Island star’s shock death last year was postponed after new evidence came to light.

Sophie, who starred in the 2016 series of the ITV2 dating show, died on June 20, last year at age 32.

She took her own life at her parents’ home in Northumberland and was discovered by her boyfriend Aaron Armstrong , who then tragically killed himself as well 20 days later.

Sophie’s inquest was originally scheduled for March 16, but was halted just days earlier after new information was brought to the attention of her parents.

A date for Sophie’s inquest has been set

Mirror Online was told that Sophie’s parents had requested further time to consider a report they had only just received.

And now, they have asked for the inquest to go ahead in their absence.

Senior Coroner for Northumberland South, Eric Armstrong, said in a statement: “Please be advised that a new hearing date for the Inquest dealing with Sophie’s death has been arranged.

“Mr and Mrs Gradon have requested that the Inquest take place in their absence, and the Inquest has now been fixed for Thursday 18th April at 10.30am at Howard House.”

Just over a week ago, on March 19, Mr Armstrong ruled that Aaron took his own life after consuming alcohol and taking cocaine.

His inquest heard that Aaron was found dead at his home just 20 days later, on July 10.

Her parents do not want to be present

Sophie’s boyfriend Aaron killed himself 20 days after discovering her body

Aaron’s mother Donna discovered him in his bedroom at the family home in Blyth, Northumberland, an inquest in North Shields, North Tyneside was told.

The fit and healthy boat captain, who worked for his father, had hanged himself.

Mr Armstrong found that the 25-year-old had alcohol and cocaine in his body when he died, and the effects of the substances had prevented him from thinking rationally.

The inquest was told Aaron and his brother Ryan had found Sophie, 32, hanging at her home in Ponteland, Northumberland, the previous month.

His mother, Mrs Armstrong said in a statement to the inquest that her concerned sons had gone round to Sophie’s home after Aaron had not heard from her and had grown worried about her lack of activity on social media.

A coroner has already ruled on his death

He got his brother to take him round as he was worried about what he would find, the statement said.

Thirty minutes later, Ryan telephoned his mother in tears to say they had found Sophie hanging and Mrs Armstrong could hear Aaron screaming.

In her statement read by the coroner, Mrs Armstrong said: “Aaron seemed absolutely hysterical.”

The coroner said it was clear her son was “extremely distressed”.
