Simple solution to get rid of dents in carpet if you've been moving furniture

A former winner of The Great British Bake Off has revealed a handy hack for those who have been rearranging their home during the lockdown.

Nancy Birtwhistle, who was crowned champion of he show’s fifth series, shares tips on social media from cleaning to cooking for her followers.

Admitting that spending so much time in the house was starting to ‘drive us nuts’, Nancy decided to have a change around while cleaning the lounge.

Wanting to rearrange the furniture to give them something different to look at, she realised she was left with marks in the carpet where the sofa had been previously.

Her simple trick to remove the dent has racked up thousands of views on social media – and it only uses what you probably already have at home.

The method quickly got rid of the marks left in the carpet from the sofa

Nancy won The Great British Bake Off in 2014

Showing the indents left by her sofa, Nancy begins by laying a clean tea towel over the mark and ironing it on a high heat, recommending to use the steam button on the iron as well if it has one.

Removing the tea towel, the mark has almost completely disappeared and she uses a small wooden fork to ‘tease’ out the rest of the remaining lines.

Nancy recommends ‘never ever’ rubbing the carpet with a cloth as it may get rid of marks and stains, but it can leave the fibres permanently damaged.

Her followers thanked her for sharing the simple solution, as one commented: “I’m going to try this today! Been wondering about the dints in the bedroom carpet!”

Another wrote: “Was literally just pondering this problem.”

A third replied with their own suggestion, saying: “Popping an ice cube on and leaving to melt works too I’m told” – but Nancy replied to say she had tried the method but it hadn’t done the job.
