Sexiest accent in the world belongs to this surprising country – do you agree?

The sexiest accents in the world have been named in a new listing by travel website Big 7. The number one most attractive accent might surprise some people – and the bad news is that it isn’t English. Big 7 polled readers from all over the world to find the top 50 best for 2019. The sexiest accent of them all was revealed to belong to New Zealand.

“To a novice ear, the New Zealand accent might sound just like the Australian accent, but Big 7 Travel readers disagree. The ‘Newzild’ dialect is outrageously charming,” Big 7 said as it crowned the Kiwi accent.

The second sexiest accent of all also came from the Southern Hemisphere.

Runner up went to the South African accent. “Afrikaans is a hugely popular accent with many people across the globe, thanks to their unique tones and Saffa slang,” said Big 7.

Third best finally spelt good news for the UK as the Irish accent was named as the third sexiest accent on the planet.

“Whether it’s a Jamie Dornan-esque Northern Irish accent or a lilting Cork jibe, people the world over love the Irish accent,” the travel site praised.

But how did the English accent fare? Last year, Timeout.com voted English as the sexiest accent in the world – but does this still stand?

Unfortunately, it does not. The ‘Queen’s English’ accent came in just 12th place after the Czech accent.

It was beaten by strong Mediterranean contenders France, Italy and Spain.

The Scottish accent performed better in the rankings, however, and came in sixth position.

Australian, South USA and Brazilian Portuguese completed the top 10.

Manchester also enjoyed a shout out in the Big 7 rankings as it was named 18th sexiest accent.

The Scouse accent, local to Liverpool, came in 33rd place. “The Scouse accent is highly distinctive, with locals in Liverpool, England piling on the slang,” said Big 7.

The Geordie accent also made it to the top 50 in 41st place. “The Newcastle accent in England is notoriously difficult to understand,” according to the travel site.

A Welsh accent was revealed to be the 45th sexiest, with Big 7 stating: “Soft and lyrical, it’s a beautiful language. But sexy? Apparently not.”
