Rita Wilson marks first performance since coronavirus diagnosis at virtual NASCAR event

Rita Wilson has performed for the first time since battling coronavirus.

The star, alongside husband Tom Hanks, battled the virus in Australia last month.

Now fully recovered, the singer-actress sang the US National Anthem at NASCAR’s iRacing Pro Invitational Series Race.

Her performance was recorded from her LA home by her son Truman, 24.

Teasing the performance yesterday on Instagram, Rita said she was ‘so honoured’ to be taking part.

As well as Truman, Rita and Tom are parents to son Chet, 29.

Meanwhile, Tom is parent to another son, 42-year-old Colin, and daughter Elizabeth, who is 37, both from previous relationships.

Tom and Rita were hospitalised after contracting the virus, but returned to the US after making full recoveries.

After getting home, Forrest Gump actor Tom said on Twitter: ‘Many, many thanks to everyone in Australia who looked after us.

‘Their care and guidance made possible our return to the USA.’

He added: ‘Many thanks to all of you who reached out with well wishes. Rita and I so appreciate it.’

As well as singing, Rita is known for her acting work, including on the hit HBO show Girls (in which she stole every scene she was in) and films like Sleepless in Seattle.
