Prince Harry admits being ‘choked up’ on visit – as real difference with William revealed

Prince Harry wore his emotions on his sleeve today as he proudly showed off his firstborn son, Archie, yet the royal is no stranger to revealing his feelings in public, as recent royal tours have shown. The Duke of Sussex, 34, alongside wife Meghan Markle, 37, gave the world a glimpse of their adorable little boy in a press conference today. Yet his strong family bond has meant he has previously been “choked up” in public, with the Queen at the crux of his emotion. In her new book, Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, author Katie Nicholl revealed the reason why – and the real difference in conduct between Harry, and older brother William, 36, when representing the crown overseas.

She wrote of the new dad’s conduct in Brazil, in 2012, and commented: “Harry had been in regular contact with William, getting his advice and keeping him up to speed on how things were going.

“He admitted, as the tour came to a close, that it had been both fun and emotional.”

She then quoted Prince Harry, who had confessed post-tour: “I personally had no idea how much warmth there was toward the Queen.

“To me, that’s been very humbling, and I was actually quite choked up, seeing the way that they are celebrating her 60 years.”

“Back at home courtiers praised the visit as a diplomatic tour de force, and when Harry went to see his grandmother she was full of praise.

“The international media had also deemed the trip a triumph, and the British newspapers described it as the making of a modern Prince.”

Prince Harry, despite now being a dad like parent of three William, is a little different when representing his grandmother the Queen, 93.

Katie commented on the varying conduct and added: “Harry had proved to be more relaxed and spontaneous than his sometimes reserved brother and his father, who could also appear buttoned up and limited by royal protocol.”

Meanwhile Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles’ touching promise to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, recently came to light.

In her book, Queen Elizabeth in our times, author Sarah Bradford detailed his heartwarming sentiment when visiting the country’s epic monument, the Taj Mahal.

She followed up with a comment on the irony of the situation where Diana posed for a picture in the same spot as her then husband had, in a particularly thoughtful pose, in 1992.

She wrote of Charles’ behaviour: “Charles himself had given a hostage to fortune when, at the same site eight years earlier, he had declared that one day he would like to bring his wife there.”

It appears Charles kept true to his word, with the pair both heading to India in 1992.

Yet with apparent difficulties in their marriage beginning to show, it perhaps wasn’t the romantic trip Charles, now married to Camilla, Princess of Wales, had envisaged.

Sarah added of Diana’s solo shot at the same spot: “In February, the couple had made an official visit to India which had featured the famous Princess Alone photograph of a pensive Diana seated in front of the Taj Mahal, the great romance monument built by Shah Jehan to the memory of his beloved wife.”
