Pound to euro exchange rate: Brexit delay BOOSTS sterling after Commons vote

The pound is faring better today after the House of Commons voted on a delay to Brexit.

This coincides with pressure on the euro thanks to issues in German manufacturing.

Factory orders had the biggest fall in two years in the European powerhouse.

This is bad news for the currency, but good news for those hoping to get more for their travel money.

Theresa May met with Jeremy Corbyn, news which gave the pound a boost. Bloomberg states the exchange rate is at 1.1715. Yesterday it was trading at 1.175.

The volatile political state of Brexit has caused the pound to rise and fall over recent months.

What is the pound to euro exchange rate

Money.co.uk’s best rate for pound to euro conversion currency is from Travel FX Travel Money, offering £1.158 to the pound with free delivery.

Currently £750 will get you €868.50. The Post Office online rates today are €1.1498 to the pound if you change over £1000.

Yesterday a new Brexit pledge saw the pound “push back” in a midweek push.

Analysing the data for Express.co.uk, Laura Parsons, from TorFX, said: “While the pound started Tuesday on the back foot, after the latest round of indicative Brexit votes led nowhere, the evening saw the GBP/EUR exchange rate push back above €1.170 once more.

“Sterling benefited from the news that PM Theresa May is going to seek another short extension of the Brexit deadline and work with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn on a deal.

“As has been the case for much of 2019, Brexit headlines will remain the driving force behind GBP movement in the days ahead.”

There are concerns that a no deal Brexit would cause mayhem for the British currency however.

The looming threat of a no deal Brexit sent the pound plummeting earlier this week.

And Brexit will affect travel in other ways too as the UK leaves the European Union.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis explained that if the UK leaves the EU there will be a surge in the number of people renewing their passport.

This means there could well be delays at the passport office for those updating their travel document.

One member of the ITV audience was unsure about waiting to renew their children’s passport until after the Brexit date.

Lewis advised that it would be best to renew UK passports as soon as possible in the case of delays.
