But try these ace ways to net yourself a saving . . .
ALL WHITE: If you want to make like a pro and get yourself the full gear, you don’t have to splash out.

STRINGS ATTACHED: It’s the most essential bit of kit and often expensive, but you can still get an affordable tennis racket. While a Wilson adult racket can cost up to £149.99 and beyond, Decathlon UK has launched the TR100 in black for just £9.99.

TRAIN HARD: Pick up a new pair of sports shoes at nike.com as its summer sale is now on. If you have smaller feet (usually up to around size 6), check the junior section where the same style is often cheaper.

A BALL LOT BETTER: Buy the official Wimbledon Slazenger tennis balls at stringersworld.com. It sells three tubes of three balls for £13.50. Or head to eBay where you can get 30 used balls (sanitised) from £13.95. They’re great for dogs too and it works out at 47p per ball instead of £1.50 per ball.

TENNIS FOR FREE: Charity tennisforfree.com offers free lessons at parks across the country, helping to make learning the game much more affordable. It is also after volunteers to supervise the lessons if you have time.
