‘Four strong women’: Naomie Harris reveals the female characters in No Time To Die ‘drive the plot forward’… after claims new James Bond movie will be the most ‘woke’ instalment ever

Naomie Harris has revealed that the female characters ‘drive the plot’ in the upcoming James Bond instalment, No Time To Die.

Speaking to The Guardian, the British actress, 43, revealed that she, and the other three female leads, Lea Seydoux, Ana de Armas and Lashana Lynch, have incredibly prominent roles in the movie alongside Daniel Craig.

‘In Bond 25 you have four strong, intelligent women who are responsible for driving the plot forward,’ the star, who reprises her role of Eve Moneypenny says, before adding: ‘They’ve never had that in Bond before.’

Speaking of their hugely important roles in the series, Ana, who takes on the role of Paloma, previously gushed about her female co-stars’ ability to ‘wear the pants’ in the flick.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Cuban actress said: ‘It’s pretty obvious that there is an evolution in the fact that Lashana is one of the main characters in the film and wears the pants – literally.

‘I wear the gown. She wears the pants,’ she continued.

This comes after reports that Phoebe Waller-Bridge – who this year won multiple Emmys for her TV work – had been hired to make 007 more ‘woke’ and up-to-date in terms of women’s rights.

During an interview with Deadline in May, Waller-Bridge argued against this too.

She said: ‘There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s b*****ks!

‘I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.’

However, earlier this month Daniel  furiously shot down reports that writer Phoebe was recruited to revise the script for No Time To Die merely because she is a woman.

The actor, 51, bit back at a journalist in an expletive-filled rant after he was asked during a recent interview with The Sunday Times whether Waller-Bridge was hired to ‘feminise’ the 007 franchise.

‘Look, we’re having a conversation about Phoebe’s gender here, which is f**king ridiculous,’ Craig said. ‘She’s a great writer. Why shouldn’t we get Phoebe onto Bond?’

He went on: ‘I know where you’re going, but I don’t actually want to have that conversation! I know what you’re trying to do, but it’s wrong. It’s absolutely wrong.

‘She’s a f**king great writer. One of the best English writers around. I said, “Can we get her on the film?” That’s where I came from.’
