My mother-in-law doesn’t love my child as much as her other grandkids – the final straw was the gift she got my daughter

THE RELATIONSHIP between a mother and her daughter-in-law can oftentimes be full of tension – and unfortunately, this mum knows it a little too well.

According to Jemma*, her mother-in-law (MIL) Carol doesn’t love her daughter as much as she does the other grandchildren – and she was stunned when she saw what Carol had gifted her granddaughter.

As reported by Kidspot, Jemma tied the knot with Aaron in 2019 and welcomed their daughter Sienna three years later, in 2022.

Aaron, who has a younger sister, Katie, mum, Carol, and dad, Justin, spends his childhood days growing up in a close-knit family that loved spending time together.

The bond became even tighter after Katie gave birth to adorable twin girls in 2017, and then the arrival of Sienna a few years later.

However, over time, Jemma couldn’t help but notice that her mother-in-law treated Sienna differently from Katie’s twins.

Chatting with the media outlet, Jemma said there were a few ”little things” – but at first, she thought it was simply her imagination.

“We have a family group chat, and whenever Carol would have Katie’s twins, she’d send pictures of them making homemade cookies or pasta from scratch, but when she had Sienna, she’d grab a cheese and bacon roll from Baker’s Delight.”

Despite bringing this up to her hubby, he insisted it must’ve been the age gap and was sure that when Sienna was older, they’d act the same.

“I bought her a present”

After an adventurous holiday to Europe, as well as Fiji, Carol invited everyone over for lunch to share her stories of the amazing time abroad and to treat the grandchildren to some gifts.

Sharing the story, Jemma claimed that Katie’s twins were gifted ”the most extraordinary Spanish flamenco dancer dresses” – but when it came to Sienna’s pressie, the mum was gobsmacked.

“It was a bloody magnet! I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?! ‘ Who buys a one-year-old a bloody magnet?” she exclaimed.

Although she can’t recollect what she said, Jemma knew it was something sarcastic along the lines of ‘Wow, a magnet…’.

The story doesn’t end there

However, that’s not the end of it, as Jemma soon began to notice even more signs that Carol loved Katie’s twins more than her other grandchild, Sienna.

For instance, during Christmas, the twins received personalised stockings whilst Sienna was gifted a generic one without her name on it.

What’s more, she claimed, Katie’s kids also had toys for them – as Sienna was left with hand-me-downs.

“Of course, I’m not expecting Carol to buy new things for Sienna, but she has literally never bought her anything just for Sienna to keep at her house.”

Although Jemma doesn’t yet know whether she will have a chat with Carol about it, she did say she’d focus on her family instead – and luckily, her parents spoil Sienna rotten.
