Morgan Fairchild, 70, reflects on playing Matthew Perry's mom in 1995

Morgan Fairchild played Chandler Bing’s mother Nora Tyler Bing on Friends beginning in 1995.

At the time, the 70-year-old blonde beauty – best known for TV’s soaper Falcon Crest – was only 45-years-old and the actor playing Chandler, Matthew Perry, was 26-years-old, which means her character would have to have been around 19-years-old when she had him.

But the Texas native told Closer Weekly she felt it was her turn to start playing mom roles, even though her friends advised her against it. ‘At some point, you’ve got to make that transition to playing the mother,’ said the siren.

Fairchild explained how it all came about.

‘When they first offered it to me to play Chandler’s mom, a lot of my [girlfriends who are actresses] said, “Oh, you can’t do that. You’re too young to play that guy’s mother,”‘ she relayed.

‘And I stopped and I thought, oh no, no. At some point, you’ve got to make that transition to playing the mother. So I said, yes,’ added the knockout.

She was on the show five times in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and had only good things to say about the experience.

‘They always gave us such great writing and such great lines and stuff, so I loved doing that,’ she stated. ‘That was fun.’

Morgan also noted that the writers were good to the guests.

‘At times, when you’re a guest star on the show, they would sort of just give you marginal stuff to do because they’re writing for their lead characters and there were six lead characters,’ she said.

‘So you know, they’re really writing hard for them. But, they were always great for all [of] us guest stars. All the parents [and] all the dates. They always wrote great stuff for everybody.’

The Days Of Our Lives vet also said she does not keep up with Perry or anyone else from the show like Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer.

‘They’ve all gone on to other things in their careers,’ said the icon.

‘I think they stay in touch with each other. I don’t think they stay in touch with the rest of us [guest stars]. But it was always great fun.’

The day before the legend talked to Closer Weekly about how she worked hard to drop 30lbs which popped up out of nowhere last year. The siren revealed after doing her research, she decided to go on the trendy Keto Diet.

And the actress, who can next be seen in Spring Break ’83, also named the plan she is on.

‘It’s called Ideal Protein — it’s like pre-packaged stuff,’ the beauty told the publication.

WHAT IS THE KETO DIET?

In the world of weight-loss diets, low-carbohydrate, high-protein eating plans often grab attention.

The Paleo, South Beach, and Atkins diets all fit into that category. They are sometimes referred to as ketogenic or ‘keto’ diets.

But a true ketogenic diet is different.

Unlike other low-carb diets, which focus on protein, a keto plan centers on fat, which supplies as much as 90% of daily calories. And it’s not the type of diet to try as an experiment.

The keto diet aims to force your body into using a different type of fuel.

Instead of relying on sugar (glucose) that comes from carbohydrates (such as grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits), the keto diet relies on ketone bodies, a type of fuel that the liver produces from stored fat.

‘I have my fake oatmeal every morning and then salads. You know it’s a very specific diet. It’s not a hard diet … it’s just very specific.

‘If you cheat at all, you don’t lose the weight … but I’ve been very disciplined,’ she told Closer’s Diana Cooper.

The Hollywood staple was interviewed by Skype from the comfort of her home in Los Angeles.

She looked noticeably slender as she wore a black top with her golden blonde hair down nicely styled with slight bangs.

The Eighties standout also had her makeup expertly done with heavy eye makeup and a flattering frosty pink lips that matched her blush.

The pinup warned if people want to copy her, they must be diligent for success.

‘You do have to stick to the diet,’ said the star.

She turned to the keto after she found out she had mold in her house.

‘I went through this unfortunate thing where I had mold in my house and I blew up like a balloon,’ she shared.

‘I had a lot of bronchial issues, which I knew were from the mold, but I had not realized that the weight gain was from the mold.’

Fairchild then did her research online and realized mold is linked to weight gain.

‘I said, “Oh my God, unexplained weight gain!”’ she said.

‘I never had a weight problem because I’m not an eater, I’m not a food person … so even once I realized what it was, I still didn’t know how to fix it.’

Morgan then luckily ‘stumbled upon this guy’ who was eating an Ideal Protein meal at the doctor’s office, the Too Old To Die Young star explained.

And she got advice from ‘a mold specialist.’

When she started the program she was advised, she ‘just started dropping weight like crazy,’ added the performer.

And the meals she orders come pre-made.

‘It’s great because I don’t cook. I mean I really don’t cook. So it’s just pre-packaged foods.’

And with COVID-19 and the riots, she is happy to stay home and not have to cook.

‘I don’t have to cook for anybody and I don’t have to worry about getting a ton of groceries because I don’t eat,’ she said.

She doesn't eat much: She also said in her interview that she is not a big eater and does not know how to cook at all; seen in the early 1980s

‘So I’m sticking to that and trying to lose more weight while we’re here in quarantine.’

She also told Closer that her boyfriend, 69-year-old Mark Seiler, is in a nursing home during lockdown.

But he is in great hands, she added.

‘They’re taking very good care of him,’ Fairchild assured. ‘I talk to Mark a lot [on FaceTime]. It’s nice.’

The icon is starring on a new soap opera, Mélange, airing on LOGOtv’s digital platforms, which she is said is ‘high camp.’
