Love Island contestant Tommy Fury has found himself at the centre of a homophobia row after using a gay slur against a fellow boxer.

On a now disabled Twitter account, the tweet was sent to his older brother Tyson Fury, and allegedly read: ‘Come on bro let’s get dis win good luck brother and chisora is a f***** and he’s gettin it proper @Tyson_Fury [sic].’

The slur was directed at British heavyweight Dereck Chisora in November 2014 when Tommy would have been 15; Tyson was preparing to fight Chisora in a world title eliminator at the time.

Tommy has followed his brother and gone into boxing as well, although Tommy is a light-heavyweight and Tyson is a heavyweight champion.

Other tweets, also seen by the Daily Star, allegedly cheer Tyson on and include conversations between the brother.

‘Training hard to be the best!’ read one tweet, with Tyson responding: ‘Work hard and sacrifice everything. Don’t have a life other than boxing, then you will do it bro – I did it.’

In response, campaigning charity Stonewall called on everyone to ‘end the use of hateful language against lesbian, gay, bi and trans people’.

‘While this tweet is historic, we know homophobic, biphobic and transphobic attitudes and languages continue to be an issue in society,’ they said in a statement.

‘For many LGBT people, the ‘F’ word has been used in a threatening and abusive way against them and may well be associated with incidents of bullying or anti-LGBT attacks. Our work continues to end the use of hateful language against lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.’

Tommy arrived in the villa late on Monday to shake things up after the initial couplings.

He set his sights on Lucie Donlan immediately but has since had his head turned by Molly-Mae Hague, who is now coupled up with after Lucie chose to recouple with Joe Garratt during Friday’s first ceremony.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Tommy for comment.
