Little Mix win The X Factor in 2011

Little Mix have come a long way since winning The X Factor in 2011.

Not only have they become one of the most successful girl groups of all time, they’ve sold more than 28 million singles, had five number one hits, and made history earlier this year when they became the first girl band to win a BRIT Award.

When the girls first started out, after being put together by Simon Cowell on the hit ITV show, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock have also undergone a dramatic style transformation, ditching their punk-inspired look for a more refined and chic wardrobe.

Last year, the girls admitted their fashion choices have changed over the years, and revealed some of their fans were divided over their wardrobe on The X Factor.

“We’ve stepped it up completely. Oh my God, do you remember us on The X Factor? Urgh! What were we thinking?!” Leigh-Anne told The Sun.

“We’re getting older, we’re turning into young, beautiful ladies,” the mum-of-two added.

We take a look back at just how much their style has evolved over the last decade in the spotlight…

Perrie Edwards

The singer experimented with a variety of different looks during the early days of her career, and even dyed her hair peroxide blonde with pink highlights at one point.

Perrie auditioned for The X Factor while rocking a hippy-inspired look, with her blonde hair in waves and a pattern headband on her forehead.

She was also the queen of layering, and was infamous for rocking shorts over tights or leggings, with a crop top worn over a strappy vest top, and Converse trainers.

Her red carpet style included floral headbands paired with short dresses, and it took her a few years to really find her feet when it came to looking glam for big events.

Now, she’s ditched the dodgy ‘00s fashion and embraced a more grown-up look, shunning the crop tops and baggy jeans for fashionable designer suits and gowns.

Perrie, who became a mum for the first time in August, has also opted for bushier brows to help frame her face, and regularly showcases her natural blonde hair with more relaxed hairstyles.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock

Leigh-Anne looks almost unrecognisable from her days on The X Factor, and for her audition, she wore a simple t-shirt teamed with a khaki green miniskirt, and her textured hair straightened into a side-swept style.

The singer looked awkward in some of her first red carpet appearances, as she struggled to feel comfortable in the spotlight while wearing clothes that didn’t suit her style.

She began to embrace a more tailored look later on, and wore two-piece suits or black jumpsuits which showed off her stunning figure.

Leigh-Anne really came into her own when she began experimenting with more fashion-forward outfits, and letting her natural hair take centre stage after years of straightening or it being styled in loose waves.

From 2017 onwards, she really began to shine on the red carpet, rocking eccentric high-fashion pieces that finally encapsulated her style, helping her make the transition from awkward teen to glamorous star.

Jade Thirlwall

While Jade has had the least dramatic makeover in the girl group, she has managed to hone her wardrobe over the last decade.

The short suits and hair accessories are long gone, and instead, she’s experimenting with different textures, styles and colours.

Jade’s petite figure has helped her pull off some incredible outfits, and she’s the queen of switching from casual looks such as jeans and crop tops, to floor-length designer gowns on the red carpet.

The singer has previously battled anorexia, and body confidence has been a journey for Jade, so she’s proud to show off her body in revealing outfits on stage and off.

“I really feel like we’re women now,” she told The Sun last year. “Now we’re women and we want to show off our bodies and our assets!”

Jesy Nelson

Jesy’s transformation since her days on The X Factor has probably been the most spectacular.

Despite leaving the band due to struggling with her mental health in December 2020, the singer has graduated from awkward teenager to gorgeous superstar.

Jesy was well-known for her curvy figure when she first appeared on the ITV singing show, and she looked stunning as she performed alongside her bandmates, but she struggled with body confidence.

The singer looked uncomfortable posing alongside Perrie, Leigh-Anne and Jade on the red carpet during the early days of Little Mix, but she began to find her niche after they won a BRIT Award in 2017.

Gone were the days of ill-fitting shorts and Converse trainers, or bodycon dresses and sky high heels – Jesy overhauled her wardrobe with more extravagant pieces, and as her confidence grew, so did her style.

After leaving the girl group, Jesy has since embarked on a solo career, and has had another style transformation since launching her own music career.
