Line of Duty star Stephen Graham says his dyslexia is so severe that his wife has to read his scripts and choose his roles. 

The star, who plays John Corbett in the BBC police drama, opened up about his struggles with the learning difficulty, but says his actress wife Hannah Walters has made good decisions when deciding his characters.

Speaking on a BAFTA Sessions panel about acting performance, the 45-year-old, who also appeared in This Is England, spoke about his experiences.

He said: ‘I’m dyslexic so I struggle. My missus actually reads the script and says whether or not I’m doing it. She’s made some good choices.

‘I have to read it and read it and read it, then make it look like it’s the first time I’m saying it.’

But the actor credits Shane Meadows, who directed This Is England, for helping him get over his struggles with scripts.

He said: ‘With Shane you spend a lot of time getting into the character and you spend the majority of time doing that and then when you’re in the room it’s whatever happens.

Fans of Line Of Duty were shocked at the latest episode, which saw the end to John Corbett when he tried to quit the group he was undercover with who slit his throat as he attempted rescue a group of women from being sold into the sex trade. 

The police drama, which was written by Jed Mercurio, also beat his other hit show Bodyguard which had an opening audience of 6.6million, The BBC reports.

Line Of Duty’s first episode of season five was watched by a 7.8million people last night – making it the most watched show of 2019 so far.
