Katie Hopkins booted out of Australia for rubbishing Covid rules

Controversial Katie Hopkins has been spotted wearing a face mask at the airport as she is booted out of Australia.

The 46-year-old had been due to appear on the Australian version of Celebrity Big Brother, but was booted off the show before it began due to her comments regarding the country’s lockdown rules.

She called the Covid-19 lockdowns “the greatest hoax in human history” as she joked about how she was breaking the rules of her 14 day quarantine, the Daily Mirror reports.

Her visa was revoked with Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews saying she was set to leave the country “imminently”.

She told Australia Broadcasting Corporation: “It’s appalling that this individual behaved the way that she did and she will be leaving.

“We will be getting her out of the country as soon as we can arrange that.

“The fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was just appalling.

“It was a slap in the face for all those Australians who are currently in lockdown and it’s just unacceptable behaviour.”

She was seen wearing a blue face mask – although it wasn’t always covering her nose – as she headed through the airport on Monday.

Hopkins is known for her controversial views on a range of subject and has provoked outrage with some of her opinions on race, sex, class, obesity and migration.

She had recorded herself on Saturday making a mockery of the lockdowns procedures in Sydney and Melbourne.

From a hotel room, she laughed as she said: “The police officer who checked me in told me, when they knock on my door I have to wait 30 seconds until I can open the door.

“I can open the door but I can only do it in a face mask.”

And she told viewers that a “game” she was playing was to try to get to the door as quick as possible wearing no clothes or face mask.

She has since denied breaking the rules. She reposted her video and captioned it: “THAT Katie’s Arms WARNING: EXTREME HUMOUR. I have never broken quarantine

“My whole heart goes out to Australians and this brilliant country known for sense of humour. Families MUST be reunited, Auzzies need the dignity of work and lockdown is the Greatest Hoax in Human History. Do not give up my darlings. Bring Australians home.”

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce told ABC’s Insiders: “I’m the one who wanted to send home Johnny Depp’s dogs home so I have no problem sending home someone who wants to flout our laws.

“If you want to do that, pack your bongo and get out of the country.”

Australia’s immigration minister Alex Hawke said on Sunday that the country’s border force had launched an investigation.

Referring to a story on Katie’s actions, he said in a statement on Twitter: “With NSW & Victoria in lockdown, a reminder that temporary visa holders must obey public health orders.

“Australian Border Force (ABF) is reviewing this matter. Where visa conditions are breached, individuals may face visa cancellation in accordance with the law.”
