Kathy Hilton was 'offended' by her 'groomzilla' son-in-law before Paris Hilton's wedding

Paris Hilton tied the knot with ‘groomzilla’ Carter Reum at her grandfather’s Bel-Air estate in a lavish ceremony in November last year

Kathy Hilton opened up about the disagreements she had with her new son-in-law Carter Reum during the planning stage of her daughter Paris Hilton ‘s wedding.

In November last year, heiress Paris tied the knot with the entrepreneur at her grandfather’s Bel-Air estate in a lavish ceremony.

But it seems like it wasn’t all smooth sailing as Kathy felt like Carter got a bit too involved with the wedding planning.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 62-year-old turned the conversation towards the ‘octopus’ and the ‘groomzilla’ – nicknames she uses for Carter.

Confused, host Jimmy Fallon asked what she was talking about.

“Because he’s got his mitts into everything,” Kathy chimed in while adding the hand motions. “and Paris is right. She goes, ‘Mummy, he means well.’

“But he was offending me. He was calling the cake place, he was calling the band, he was calling the party planner, the hotels, the everything.”

Jimmy responded: “But he’s the groom.”

However, Kathy believed that Carter getting involved with the planning “isn’t normal”.

She added: “He even picked out the invitations and the save the date cards and I’m like….”

Paris came to her husband’s defence and said that he’s simply responsible and ‘very organised’.

Fans will get to see the planning as well as Paris’ wedding in her new Peacock reality series Paris In Love.

The entire planning drama unfolded on screen, with Carter causing tension within the family when he tried calling the Beverly Hills Hotel and asked to meet with the wedding planner.

“I’m the final call — whoever writes the check. I mean, do you know what I’m saying?” Kathy said at the time.

“This is like, my wedding too. How do you think it makes me look and feel when the son-in-law-to-be has already called over there?”

Disagreeing with her mum, Paris questioned how she had ‘got in her mind that my wedding is her wedding.’

“I don’t want to be mean and hurt her feelings, but like, I’m the bride, you’re the mother of the bride,” she told the cameras.

After her wedding, Paris shared the news on her Instagram, writing: “My forever begins today,” alongside the hashtags ‘just married’ and ‘forever Hilton Reum’.

Paris had been dating Carter since 2019 although they have known each other for over a decade. He proposed on a private beach at the start of 2021.
