Jaws actress dies after suffering coronavirus complications


Lee Fierro has died from complications of coronavirus at the age of 91.

She was an actress that played a memorable role in the iconic shark horror movie Jaws, in 1975.

Variety has reported that Lee passed away at an assisted living facility in Ohio, where she had moved to in 2017 so that she could be nearer her family,

The actress is best known for playing Alex Kintner’s mum in the Steven Spielberg film, which has gone on to be one of the most talked about movies in cinema history.

Alex Kintner was a young boy in the 70s blockbuster and was the second victim of the bloodthirsty shark.

Lee played the character’s mum and in one memorable scene, she slaps police chief Brody across the face, who was played by Roy Scheider.

Speaking about that scene, Lee’s longime friend said: “She was tickled by it. She found it really entertaining.”

She told Martha’s Vineyard Times: “She would say, ‘If you told me that’s what I’d be known for, I wouldn’t believe it.’”

Lee lived at Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts for quite a while, and this was mainly where Jaws was filmed.

The movie was an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. The movie starred Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, as well as Scheider.

In 1987, Lee was back playing the role of Mrs Kintner in Jaws: The Revenge.

Away from starring in iconic shark films, Lee worked at the Island Theatre Workshop as a drama teacher.

She went on to be the workshop’s artistic director for 25 years.

It has been reported that a memorial will take place in Martha’s Vineyard at a future undisclosed date.
