ITV This Morning: 'It's not working' Phillip Schofield’s massive announcement goes wrong

This Morning returned to television screens today as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield presented for the first time this week after the show was take off air yesterday due to the Rugby World Cup coverage. During today’s show, they announced who the first contestant was for the 2020 Dancing on Ice series. But their reveal went horribly wrong.

Taking over a corner of the ITV studio was a giant snowglobe and inside stood one celebrity wearing a big white winter coat.

Around them, fake snow was blowing via a leaf blower and this was how This Morning was going to reveal the first Dancing on Ice contestant.

However, due to the sheer volume of the leaf blower, Holly and Phillip were forced to shout at the camera for those watching at home to hear the announcement.

“So magical, a snow globe with a leaf blower,” Phillip remarked sarcastically.

“Oh my goodness me! We’ve ruined, ruined the magic!” Holly shouted. “Welcome back, it is time to reveal… I said, it is time to reveal – shall we turn that off now?”

“Yes, it’s not actually working that much to be honest,” Phillip added.

“It is time to reveal the first celebrity taking part in Dancing on Ice and it’s actually a member of the This Morning family, so just who is it?” Holly continued.

After being told to “reveal herself” Maura Higgins turned around and shrugged off the coat and hat.

Those watching at home then saw the camera cut to a pre-recorded clip of Michael Barrymore.

“Hi Holly and Phil!” He said. “I am delighted to say I will be joining the Dancing on Ice line-up for 2020.

“I am really looking forward to meeting everyone else, I am really excited – it’s performance time!”

The camera then returned to the studios where Maura was seen standing next to the presenters.

“Maura is out of the snow globe! Which we actually said ‘turn if off and let’s see what happens’ this is the saddest snow globe you’ve ever seen in your life, slowly going down.” Philip said.

“How much skating have you done?” he asked Maura.

“I’ve skated twice in my life just for fun, I have no experience at all! I know it’s very scary,” The former Love Island star explained.

“This is big, you’ve got headbangers, all these things, are you up for the challenge?” Holly quizzed

“Yes! I’m more excited than scared. I’m brave and I’m competitive so I think that will drive me,” Maura said.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
