How to get cheap first class tickets or an upgrade revealed by airline insiders

Flying first class is one of the most luxurious travel experiences, and one of the most expensive.

Most can’t afford these tickets, but upgrades and cheap tickets are usually available.

However, who gets them is a matter for flight attendants or airline staff to decide.

One cheap travel company has revealed some clever tricks that could get up upgraded for cheap or for free.

Sky Scanner listed a number of upgrade tips and trick from travel insiders.

Two of them include the time you arrive for your flight, although they are rather conflicting tips.

Product Manager David Low told Sky Scanner: “My wife and I were flying to the Dominican Republic. We’d got to Glasgow Airport far too early but at least there was no queue.

“The check-in lady told us that they had two spare seats in first class, and since we were first to arrive, we could have them for free. So we happily accepted.”

Sky Scanner recommended travellers could “maximise your chances of bagging (upgrades) by rocking up at check-in ten hours before the scheduled departure.

“If it backfires, you’ll have to kill a murderous amount of time in Starbucks.”

Being late could also net you an upgrade, one flyer revealed.

Joe Sarre, Senior Product Manager in APAC says it “works well at busy times, but it’s a dangerous game!

“If you’re too late you might miss the check-in time, or they might have already sorted their overbooking problems by giving upgrades to the passengers ahead.”

Sky Scanner also urged flyers to check their emails for correspondence about cheap flights.

Flight experts have also revealed their tips for how to sleep on long haul flights

Of the frequent flyers on Reddit offering their tips, one was the most frequent.

They suggested those looking to fly picked one particular seat. While many might plump for the window seat, these internet users said the aisle seat was by far the best bet for sleeping on long haul flights.

One wrote: “I get my ticket asap, request an aisle if possible.”
