Is Charlie Brooker hiding something?
When Miley Cyrus’ Ashley O character landed on our screens in Black Mirror season five episode Rachel Jack and Ashley Too None were more shooketh than Halsey.
And we can understand why.
There is a striking resemblance between Miley’s popstar alter-ego and Halsey, with the two sharing vibes, aesthetics, wigs and names.
But we weren’t game to say something until Halsey – real name Ashley Frangipane – did.
Thankfully she’s now said what we’re all thinking as over the weekend she had a crisis of sorts upon realising the parallels between herself and the fictional character portrayed by Miley in the Netflix series.
She wrote: ‘Black Mirror episode about a popstar named Ashley with colourful hair.
‘Existential crisis: Engage.’
The idea of a little Halsey inspiration behind Ashley was even more believable when you compare the shot of Ashley O chilling in a pink bathtub, which echoes similar scenes in Halsey’s Ghost filmclip.

It took fans of the singer around .2378 of a second to respond, sounding off their own conspiracy theories and begging for a Halsey and Ashley O collaboration.
When one follower pointed out the fact Ashley O ‘goes from super pop to alt rock/punk’ Halsey replied: ‘If I did they killed me.’
Another came up with the conspiracy of the century as they proffered: ‘So basically u and ashley o are the same…. so u and miley are the same…… so ur hannah montana?????? [sic].’
It’s just dawned on us that perhaps the whole premise of Halsey is a Black Mirror episode.
Like, is she even real?
Not so, according to some real woke punters who believed Ashley O was a total work on Miley’s Disney transformation.
‘I’m confused how people think Ashley O has something to do with Halsey just because her name is Ashley,’ one wrote on Twitter. ‘But don’t see what a strong metaphorical representation it is of Miley’s experience with Disney/Hannah Montana ???? Some of y’all never read her book and it shows x.’
It shows, apparently.
