The Killers capped off a scorching second day of Glastonbury Festival 2019, throwing out hit after hit for their headline set.

The group walked onto the Pyramid Stage to Frank Sinatra’s Luck Be A Lady, before launching into a rendition of their hit Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine and powering through Somebody Told Me, Human and Mr Brightside.

Front man Brandon Flowers later introduced the Pet Shop Boys to the stage for several songs including Always On My Mind.

Johnny Marr, who had played earlier in the day performed on the stage, then joined the band for a cover of This Charming Man, before bringing the curtain down on the festival’s second night of music.

Earlier, former Oasis star Liam Gallagher had performed on the same stage, treating fans to a mix of his solo work with beloved tracks from his old band.

He dedicated Champagne Supernova to the late Prodigy front man Keith Flint, who died earlier this year.

Gallagher took a couple of veiled jabs at estranged brother Noel, who he has a strained relationship with following Oasis’ acrimonious split in 2009.

Before performing Wonderwall, perhaps the band’s best-known song, he said apparently this is shit as well”, a possible reference to Noel’s comments that he does not “particularly like” the song.

Lewis Capaldi also had the last laugh, walking on stage while a video of Noel, his musical idol, asking ‘who is this Capaldi fella?’ played in the background.

The former Oasis musician has taken aim at Lewis, who was enjoying his fourth week at the top of the album charts with his debut record Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, by complaing on Radio X: ‘Music is f***ing w**k at the moment. Who is this Capaldi fella? Who the f***’s that idiot?’

Pop superstar Janet Jackson took to the Pyramid Stage before Gallagher with a powerful performance focused on her string of hits but viewers at home and in the crowds were also left disappointed by the sound issues that plagued her.

Temperatures hit the high 20s at Worthy Farm for the second day in a row with the festival deciding at one point to shut off the Greenpeace showers in order to let reservoirs refill.
