Get the cheapest flights to Europe by booking 63 days before you travel and 118 days ahead for the best hotel deals

But with a bit of planning, you could save on flights and hotels year round.

According to the travel experts at Kayak.co.uk, Brits can save up to 69 per cent on travel if they booked at the right time.

And exactly when you should be booking will depend on where in the world you’re heading to.

Based on searches made on its site in the last year, Kayak found that for the cheapest flights to Europe, you need to book 63 days before you travel.

On average, you could save up to 56 per cent if you book then, compared to prices on the day.

Choosing which day you travel matters as well – Tuesday departures are usually the cheapest, while Sundays are the most expensive.

If you’re flying long haul, you should book your flights 51 days before you travel instead – you can save up to 42 per cent compared to the price you’d pay on the day.

The best days to book hotels is completely different and you should plan way ahead if you want to find the cheapest deal.

For European breaks, if you book 118 days in advance, you could save up to 49 per cent compared to prices on the day you arrive.

And for hotels in a long haul destination, the best day to book is 115 days before you travel – you can make the biggest saving then, with up to 69 per cent off.

Of course, this is not an exact science because prices will fluctuate depending on what airline you’re flying with and what city, and even airport you’re flying to.

As Sun Online Travel previously revealed, you could save hundreds on a package holiday just by changing the airport you’re flying from.

If the city you’re travelling to has a big event on, it might even be worth switching hotels half way through your stay.

And if you don’t mind the spontaneity, booking a hotel at the very last minute can mean some great savings.
