Frozen 2 star Kristen Bell on what her kids think about her playing Anna and why she won’t be getting ‘cool mum’ points

FOR most children, it would be a dream come true if their mum had a role in a hit Disney movie.

But Kristen Bell’s daughters were not that fussed when she revealed secrets and sang songs from Frozen 2, which features the actress as the voice of Anna.

Kristen only realised afterwards that blabbing to daughters Lincoln, six, and Delta, four, could have got her into trouble with movie bosses, who are keeping details of the highly anticipated sequel under wraps ahead of its release next Friday.

She said: “In my desperation to show my kids I am cool I told them everything about the plot two years ago. Then it occurred to me I am in breach of my contract.

“But they both hate it when I sing and when I come home to share tidbits from the set.

“They are not really interested . . . for now.”

Like millions of other children, the little girls became fans of the first film, which features their mum as Anna.

Kristen added: “They think it’s a tiny bit cool but really see it as a story they digested as their own.

“Me getting involved and knowing about it kind of messes it up for them. So no cool points for mum!

“I’m two weeks out from them spilling the beans and Disney suing me, so I am very excited that the movie is finally here.”

It has been six years since Frozen became the most successful animated film of all time.

The tale of Anna’s quest to find her Snow Queen sister Elsa made more than £650million worldwide in a matter of weeks — and the DVD sold three million copies in a day.

The musical’s soundtrack, featuring the smash hit Let It Go, sung by Idina Menzel as Elsa, went to No1.

In February the trailer for the movie follow-up hit 116.4million views — the biggest-ever first-day total.

Now Frozen 2, with Idina also returning as Elsa, is set to break as many records as the first movie.

Not that Kristen has had time to think about how successful her new film will be. The busy mum insists on family coming first — even if life in LA with her husband of six years, 44-year-old actor Dax Shepard, can be hard to juggle.

She said on US TV: “I always think, ‘If I’m on my deathbed, what am I gonna be thinking about?’

“And it won’t be some random movie I participated in, or some TV show. It will be my family.

“We have a calendar that looks comical. It sits in the island in our kitchen and gets adjusted all the time but it works.

“We’ve had this really lucky pattern where I’m crazy busy and Dax is not, and then it switches.

“So we’ve been the beneficiary of just good luck.”

Kristen also credits her husband with keeping her grounded when the movie industry has judged her on her looks.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actress said: “Thank God for airbrushing. One thing I had to fight in my career is hearing that I’m not homely enough to play the nerdy girl and not nearly pretty enough to play the pretty girl.

“One thing that I could always improve upon is what my husband tells me every single night: ‘It does not matter what other people think about you — it matters what you think about you.’

“And when I can live by that I feel pretty damn good.”

Dax and Kristen have been inseparable since meeting at a mutual friend’s party in 2007. She once said: “Today our marriage gets deeper and more solid, and starts to contribute to other areas of my life.

“It’s like building a house. It takes a lot of work but once you have the house, you can now do work inside of it because it’s stable and supportive.

“The depth of our love has produced so many wonderful aspects and security.

“Sometimes, we’ll look at each other and we’re like, ‘We need some intimacy and sex, like, right now.’ We’re just very honest about it.”

And she hopes her daughters will one day be as honest and open about the birds and the bees as she is. She revealed on her Momsplaining podcast: “Sex is wonderful. I want my kids to have sex [as adults]. I want them to have good, healthy, positive, happy, wild sex.”

But for the time being, the mum of two hopes her girls can learn to bond with each other like the two sisters in Frozen. Kristen said: “When they do fight, which is totally normal, I say, ‘How do you think Anna and Elsa treat each other?’ ”

Kristen also hopes her new film will inspire other children.

She said: “I just hope that this movie can be as important to kids as the first one was. Everything is unique in this one. The love story is unique because it’s really about siblings and the love of family.

“I wanted Anna to be out of her element, and she was. Every time she would snort, or snore or trip, I would ask them to add it, and they would. It was great.

“Growing up. my family embraced uniqueness on all levels.

“So the message is to embrace who you are, even if you are different and unique.

“Individuality really makes us special. I truly believe that with all my heart.”
