Pulsing or throbbing in your ears – high blood pressure

This rarely has any noticeable symptoms, but if it sounds like your heart is beating in your ears it could be a sign you have high blood pressure.

More than one in four adults in the UK have high blood pressure, but many don’t realise it – according to the NHS.

If it goes untreated, it can increase your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Hearing whistling noises – Tinnitus

If you hear whistling, buzzing, humming or even hissing, and it is not caused from an outside source, it could be tinnitus.

Tinnitus is common condition that can be treated.

The NHS recommends you see your GP if it is constant noise, or it is affecting your sleep or concentration.

The GP will check for an ear infection or a build-up of ear wax before referring you to a specialist.

Whistling when you breathe – Lung infection, asthma

If you can hear a whistling noise when you inhale and/or exhale it could be a warning sign that your upper airways are restricted.

A medical exam will determine whether or not you have a lung infection or if it’s the start of asthma.

If the individual inflicted is a baby it could be bronchitis.

Lung infections can be treated with antibiotics if it doesn’t go away on its own with home remedies.

Asthma can be treated usually by using an inhaler.
