EasyJet passengers STILL don’t know where their luggage is two days after being forced to fly from Gatwick without their belongings

SCORES of easyJet passengers still don’t know where their belongings are two days after being forced to jet off without their checked bags.

Passengers have complained that they’re missing everything from clothing for weddings and honeymoon to vital medication and baby food.

Earlier this week, Gatwick Airport suffered a baggage belt failure that lasted several hours and affected hundreds of passengers.

There were long queues at check-in counters as a result, with some passengers missing their flight due to the delay.

EasyJet, which has a base at the airport, was one of the worst affected by the incident.

But while the airline tried to get as many passengers through as quickly as possible, they also sent planes full of passengers off to their destination without any of their bags in the hold.

Many passengers complained that they only realised their bags weren’t with them once they arrived at their destination.

Since then, easyJet has said it was working hard to repatriate the bags.

But two days later, many passengers still haven’t been reunited with their belongings.

Julie Deeney told Sun Online Travel: “I checked in at 4 am for 6am flight. We were told just before we landed that some cases didn’t make the plane but not to worry they would come on the next flight. They didn’t.

“I haven’t had any help or update as to when it might come.

“A man from Easyjet sent me a DM after I had repeatedly complained on twitter but I haven’t heard back from him since 4pm yesterday and now he is ignoring me.”

While some passengers on Julie’s plane have received their bags, Julie hasn’t been so lucky – and easyJet’s bag tracer feature hasn’t been of help either.

She explained: “Bag tracer never updated still saying trying to trace. Easyjet keep asking me if I have logged case as missing and do I know about world tracer. Yes and yes repeatedly. [They] don’t know what they are doing.”
But she is far from alone.

On Twitter, scores of passengers have complained about the same problem.

Charlotte Symers said: “Customer Services have said our bags could be in ‘any’ country by now and it can take five days.

“They still haven’t been located and it’s 48 hrs since our flight. We move countries in two days so we need them to arrive in Verona before we leave. Who can we speak to at Gatwick?”

Chris Madigan tweeted: “We’ve been trying to get our golf bags for 3 days only to now be told you have no idea where our bags are, how do I go about claiming compensation?

“This is beyond a joke along with the stress of a completely wasted golf trip that we’ve been looking forward to for months”

And a quick search yields many similar complaints.

In response, an easyJet spokesperson told Sun Online Travel: “We are sorry that due to a baggage belt failure at London Gatwick’s North Terminal [on Tuesday] some flights departed without all luggage stowed in the hold.

“We are working around the clock to return luggage to our passengers as quickly as possible with the majority due to be reunited with customers today.

“We would like to thank passengers for their understanding and apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

Earlier this year, British Airways admitted 150,000 bags were lost or delayed in the first half of 2019.

Sun Online Travel previously revealed that sharing luggage with the people you’re travelling with could help lessen the pain if one of the bags goes missing or is delayed.
