Dr Alex George has warned fans not to pay attention to a viral NHS voice note hoax that is being sent around.

The Love Island star was made aware of the voice note by fans messaging on Instagram and he was quick to reassure his followers that there is no truth to the disturbing note being sent around.

The audio claims that ambulances would leave those struggling from the virus at home to die, including babies and children. It is also spreading false information referring to deaths of babies and children with no underlying health conditions.

Making it clear that there is no truth in the voice note and it is a hoax, Dr Alex issued a warning to his followers.

He wrote: ‘I have had loads of DMs regarding this voice recording. I can assure you that this is not true and the ambulance service and indeed the hospitals will be treating everyone in the way they always have.

‘Things are hard enough as it is. Without things like this. Please don’t write these things. For those messaging me and panicking, please do not worry.

‘You will be brought to hospital if you need to be and the paramedics will care for you in the same way they always have. You have my word.’

Alex added that he himself has listened to the recording and he described it as ‘disturbing’.

He wrote: ‘I have just head the message and it is very disturbing. Not because its true (IT ISN’T!!) but because I don’t know why anyone would do that.

‘I am so sorry to anyone who was affected by this but please spread the message that is fake.’

Alex starred on the 2018 series of Love Island, alongside Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham. He worked as a doctor before the show and has since returned to the NHS.

The TV star has been on the frontlines during the coronavirus pandemic and has urged people to understand the importance of lockdown measures like social distancing, after watching his colleagues die from the virus.

‘It is absolutely heartbreaking seeing people not following the guidance,’ Alex told Good Morning Britain via video link. ‘If they knew the risks, they wouldn’t do it.’

There are currently more than 55,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK and the number of deaths has surpassed 7,000.

However, it has been reported that the number of new cases of Covid-19 are very slowly starting to decline as lockdown measures begin to have an effect.
