Don’t use the hotel phone charger as it could ruin the batteries on your device

HOTEL rooms generally come with shampoo and shower gel as standard but some also offer lots of other freebies – you just have to ask.

One thing that’s particularly helpful for forgetful travellers is phone chargers, which they will let you borrow for free.

But as it turns out, you might want to think twice about using a phone charger provided by your hotel.

This is because you don’t know where the charger has come from and whether it’s good quality – and knock off chargers can ruin the batteries in your phone.

Brad Nichols, a repair technician for Staymobile, told Readers Digest: “Cheaper chargers don’t necessarily have the standards in place to fill your phone constantly with the correct voltage.

“The fluctuation of voltage can damage the charger port, and even damage your battery.”

But it’s not the only issue with hotel phone chargers.

Dodgy phone chargers have also been blamed for house fires, with some even blowing up during use.

And because you don’t know where the cable has come from, it could also leave you open to hackers.

Even worse, there’s no way to tell whether it’s a hacked cable without opening it.

Some travellers have suggested that if you attach your keys to your charger, you will never forget it.

Travellers have also been warned to avoid using USB charging stations at airports.
