Coronation Street star Simon Gregson opens up about 'hidden, awful' condition

Corrie star Simon Gregson has opened up about his battle with “awful” anxiety.

Simon, Steve McDonald in the ITV soap, said a combination of therapy and medication helped him cope, adding “you’ll be surprised how many people suffer”.

He said: “It’s a hidden, awful emotion but it’s treatable and manageable with the right help. Tablets work different for different people, mine worked with therapy.

“You need to find the right one for you. Life is complicated, enjoy, embrace and love each other.”

Simon has played Steve McDonald on the ITV soap for decades

Simon, 44, was talking to fans on Twitter following BBC show Nadiya: Anxiety and Me, about former Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain’s mental health struggles.

He has previously spoken about battling depression and was signed off work in 2015 for an undisclosed illness. But two years ago he said he was the happiest he’s ever been.

The actor said at the time: “I had to pinch myself the other day – a beautiful wife and three beautiful kids who are hilarious.”
