Cillian Murphy spotted filming last series of Peaky Blinders at Scots harbour

Cillian Murphy has been spotted in Aberdeenshire as part of filming for the final season of Peaky Blinders.

The film and TV star was seen with the cast and crew of the hit BBC and Netflix show on Portsoy Harbour earlier today.

Production crews turned the north east harbour into what looked like an ‘American prison‘ for the day of filming.

The 44-year-old Irish actor, who plays the starring role of Tommy Shelby in the popular series, was dressed in his full three-piece suit as he sauntered around the town.

The cast and crew donned masks as part of their “comprehensive production protocols” to ensure that the filming was carried in accordance with Scottish Government guidelines on the lockdown.

Filming for the sixth and final series of the programme was originally due to take place last year, but was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Peaky Blinders creator and writer Steven Knight has promised fans that this series will be the ‘best of all’.

Speaking on the first day of production being resumed last month, he said: “Peaky is back and with a bang.

“After the enforced delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.

“We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it.

“While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

The sixth series of the gangster drama will follow on from season five, which was considered to be one of the darkest yet from the franchise.

The last series saw Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) entering the murky world of politics and become entangled with fascism and the schemes of Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin).

Additionally, the Scottish gang known as the Billy Boys attempted to take territory from the Shelby clan and also brutally dispatched their allies.

Meanwhile, Tommy himself is haunted by visions of his dead wife and contemplating a dark fate.
