Brian May was seen heading out and about on crutches, after opening up about suffering a heart attack and having to undergo surgery.

The Queen legend, 72, was spotted for the first time since telling fans he was rushed to hospital following a gardening accident and had to have three stents installed into his heart.

After reassuring fans he is feeling ‘good’ and ‘ready to rock’ despite his recent hospital dash seeing him ‘very near death’, Brian headed out in London for some fresh air amid lockdown.

He was seen dressed down in a black t-shirt, shorts and crocs and made sure to take precautions during the coronavirus pandemic by wearing a face mask around his neck – ready to pull up over his nose and mouth.

Brian had his shades hanging from his neck on a chain and looked in good spirits as he enjoyed some time outdoors.

He was seen joined by a friend during the walk, as he made his way around, before getting into a car, with the support of his crutches.

Brian’s appearance in London comes after he took to Instagram to update fans on his health.

In a video shared to his page, Brian explained that he had been suffering from a painful injury after tearing the muscle in his bottom, but was driven to hospital by his doctor after suffering a ‘small heart attack’.

He explained:’In the middle of it, the rest of the story is a little more bizarre, a bit more shocking, well I was shocked because I thought I was a pretty healthy guy and everyone says “You’ve got great blood pressure, you’ve got a great heart rate”.

‘I keep fit with biking, I’ve got a good diet, not too much fat, but anyway, in the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside, I had a small heart attack.’

The musician added: ‘I say small, it’s not something that did me any harm, it was about 40 minutes of pain in my chest and tightness and that feeling in the arms, and sweating, you kinda know, you’ve heard, “is this a heart attack?’’’

Taken to hospital where he was seen as an emergency patient, Brian was given an angiogram – an X-ray used to examine blood vessels – to find out what was wrong.

‘They looked at me, and said, “Brian, I’m sorry this is a little more complicated than we thought…”’ Brian said, while revealing three of his arteries ‘were congested and in danger of blocking the supply of blood’ to his heart.

While some felt Brian needed open heart surgery and a triple bypass, it was later decided that the star could have three stents put into his heart and he could leave hospital that night or the following day.

Brian had to take severe medication for the pain from his muscle injury and is now urging others to have their hearts checked.

‘I thank [the doctors] from the bottom of my heart,’ he told fans. ‘I think I’m in good shape for some time to come. I didn’t die, I came out and I would have been full of beans if it wasn’t for the leg.’

He said: ‘I was very near death because of this, but the pain I had was from something completely different… but I’m good, I’m here, and I’m ready to rock.’
