The man behind some of the biggest K-pop bands, such as BLACKPINK and Big Bang, was reportedly questioned by police in relation to a gambling and sex scandal this week.

Yang Hyun-suk, who founded record label YG Entertainment, was pictured arriving at a Seoul police station in South Korea on Wednesday for questioning.

Before entering the station, Hyun-suk briefly spoke to reporters and stated: ‘I will sincerely explain my position to the police.’

However, police chose not to comment on the ongoing investigation.

Reuters reports that police are investigating illegal gambling and prostitution within the K-pop music industry.

In June, Hyun-suk stepped down as YG Entertainment’s chief producer and has denied the multiple accusations of drug and sex scandals involving some of his artists at the record label.

Back in March, a member of Big Bang – who are signed to YG Entertainment – sensationally quit the music industry over sex bribery allegations.

Seungri was accused of providing sexual escort services to foreign investors and VIP clients. He is also said to have been questioned on Wednesday.

Announcing his departure from music, Seungri wrote in an Instagram post: ‘At this moment, it seems like it would be good for me to retire from the entertainment industry. I’ve decided to retire from the entertainment industry because of the huge social controversy that has arisen. I am under investigation, and I will receive investigation with sincerity so that the building suspicions can be revealed.

‘During the past month and a half, I have received criticism and hate from the public and been in a situation where every investigative agency in this country is investigating me. I just cannot accept causing pain to those around me just for my sake.’

He added: ‘I would like to apologise one more time.’

The claims prompted police to launch an investigation, while three other K-pop stars resigned.

Hyun-suk is reported to be the biggest shareholder of YG Entertainment, which he founded in 1996.

His brother Yang Min-suk, who was the company’s chief executive, has also resigned from his position.
