Billie Eilish makes Coachella debut as the rising star's album sits atop Billboard 200 chart 


Billie Eilish performed at Coachella for the first time on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old singer-songwriter wore a baggy sweatshirt and cargo shorts to jump around the stage as she opened her set with her new track Bad Guy.

Her energetic performance was highlighted by some of the most elaborate audio-visual presentations and staging of the 2019 Coachella to date.

The teen music sensation performed her hits like Bury A Friend and Wish You Were Gay in front of a celeb-packed crowd, which included the likes of Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Culpo, Ed Westwick, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott.

The performance comes as Billie’s new album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? sits atop the Billboard 200 chart.  

Eilish seemed a little stunned by the reception she received, marveling ‘This is crazy’ at one point during her performance. 

‘I don’t deserve this at all,’ she told the crowd later.

Meanwhile, Mac DeMarco opened with his controversial song Here Comes The Cowboy.

The 28-year-old encouraged crowd participation from his first song, asking the crowd to sing the one and only lyric from the song: ‘Here comes the cowboy’.

The Canadian singer-songwriter came under fire for releasing a recent album and single with titles some believed were too similar to fellow musician Mitski.

Apart from the eponymous track from his most recent album, Demarco played songs like Choo Choo, On The Level and My Kind Of Woman.

He came under online fire when he announced his new album Here Comes The Cowboy and its lead single Nobody.

Many were quick to point out that female alt-rocker Mitski had only a year earlier released an album titled Be The Cowboy and with a single called Nobody.

DeMarco’s reps told Pitchfork that ‘Mac never listened to Mitski’s album and learned about her album and song title only after determining his own album title and single.’

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicked off on Friday, with a star-studded lineup taking the main stage later tonight.

Four-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves takes the Coachella Stage at 5:55 PM, with Jaden Smith performing on the Sahara Stage at 6:25.

Anderson Paak and the Free Nationals take the Coachella Stage at 7:40 PM, followed by The 1975 at 9:35, Janelle Monae at 10:30 and Childish Gambino closing out the night on the main stage at 11:25.

The Sahara stage will also feature Blackpink at 8:30 PM, Diplo at 10:15 PM and Nora En Pure at 11:30 PM.

Meanwhile, multi-hyphenate Virgil Abloh hit the decks for his DJ set at the annual outdoor festival.

The 38-year-old artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection opened his set with the Phil Collins classic In The Air Tonight, before segueing into Kanye West’s track On Sight.

Apart from being a DJ, Virgil is also a fashion designer and entrepreneur.

Cardi B collaborator J Balvin also took the stage – although his I Like It fellow singer wasn’t in attendance.

However the Colombian reggaeton singer did perform a duet, pairing up with Rosalia for a rendition of Con Altura.

J -whose full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín- sported a distinctive rainbow hairdo for the set.

 Iconic Los Angeles rock act Weezer warmed up before their performance kicked off with an amusing barber shop quartet skit.

And the core quartet of Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner were joined by some very special guests like Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas.  

The TLC star performed No Scrubs with the guys.

The Gobi stage will feature Calypso Rose at 6:30 PM, DVSN at 7:20 PM, Polo & Pan at 8:05 PM, Khruangbin at 9:35 PM and Charlotte Gainsbourg at 11:15 PM.

On Saturday, the Coachella Main Stage lineup kicks off with Gabe Real at 1:50 PM, Arizona at 2:45 PM, Mr. Eazi at 3:50 PM, Sabrina Claudio at 4:55 PM, Bazzi at 6:05 PM, J Balvin at 7:15, Weezer at 8:35 and Tame Impala at 10:35.

Among the other Saturday late night highlights include actor/DJ Idris Elba spinning on the Yuma stage at 9 PM, with Aphex Twin playing at the Mojave stage at 9:05 PM.

Newcomer Billie Eilish performs at the Outdoor Theatre at 9:30 PM with Wiz Khalifa performing at 10 PM on the Sahara stage, followed by Kid Cudi at 11:55 PM.

Sunday, April 14 features some of the biggest names of the festival, including Pusha T on the Coachella Stage at 4:15 PM, followed by Bad Bunny at 5:40 PM and Zedd at 7:10 PM.

Khalid performs at 8:35 PM on the Coachella stage, with H.E.R. performing at the Outdoor Theatre at 9:30 and Ariana Grande closing out the night at 10:30 PM on the Coachella Stage.

For Childish Gambino fans, along with his performance on Friday, there will be screenings of a film called Guava Island, which will be shown during the performance and there will be screenings on Saturday at 5 PM.

For those who aren’t at Coachella, the film will also stream on Amazon Prime as well.
