Arnold Schwarzenegger shared photos of his bike ride with environmental activist Greta Thunberg, labelling her a ‘hero’.

The Terminator star, 72, had introduced Greta, 16, to his daughter before they pedalled around Santa Monica this week.

He told his followers: ‘It was fantastic to see my friend and one of my heroes @gretathunberg last week and go on a bike ride around Santa Monica together and I was so pumped to introduce her to my daughter Christina. Keep inspiring, Greta!’

Greta, who had travelled to Los Angeles for the Youth Climate Strike on 1 November, also took the time to hang out with Leonardo DiCaprio during her trip.

Leo was just as impressed with the young activist as Arnie was, telling his fans: ‘There are few times in human history where voices are amplified at such pivotal moments and in such transformational ways – but @GretaThunberg has become a leader of our time.

‘History will judge us for what we do today to help guarantee that future generations can enjoy the same livable [sic] planet that we have so clearly taken for granted.

‘I hope that Greta’s message is a wake-up call to world leaders everywhere that the time for inaction is over. It is because of Greta, and young activists everywhere that I am optimistic about what the future holds.

‘It was an honor [sic] to spend time with Greta. She and I have made a commitment to support one another, in hopes of securing a brighter future for our planet.’

Greta has made the trip from Sweden to America using low-carbon forms of transport, including spending 14 days crossing the Atlantic in a racing yacht, with the aim to eventually reach the COP25 climate summit.

The summit was initially in Chile, but mass anti-government protests in Santiago means it has been rearranged to take place in Madrid, Spain, at the start of December.

She tweeted last week: ‘It turns out I’ve travelled half around the world, the wrong way. Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November. If anyone could help me find transport I would be so grateful.’
